(Just started a feature list for the installation program. -Jo Even)

[edit] Feature list

  • The installer is a single program and is a part of the FreeMiNT archive.
  • Autodetects machine type and CPU, and copies the correct kernel to <boot>\auto.
  • Removes unneccessary binaries (inappropriate kernels and modules) depending on machine type/CPU.
  • When installing from scratch:
    • Asks the user a few questions (desktop, some paths).
    • Edits mint.cnf and xaaes.cnf accordingly.
    • If the tools are present, the system is set up to use them (TosWin, fscheck).
  • When upgrading an existing installation:
    • Binary files are overwritten.
    • Config files are not touched.

[edit] Use cases

  • The user has unpacked the FreeMiNT archive (should it be self-extracting?) to the root of the boot-drive, and starts mint\setup.prg.
